What people use a random letter generator for
- Scattergories and other categories games. Draw a letter, then everyone names a country, an animal and a food that start with it. Skip the hard letters so rounds stay fun, and use the wheel when the whole table is watching.
- Teaching the alphabet. Show one big letter and ask children to say it, write it or find something in the room that starts with it. Switch to lowercase or Aa to practise both forms.
- Picking without bias. Choose which student goes first by surname, which team starts, or a letter for a baby name brainstorm.
- Drawing and writing prompts. A random letter is a quick constraint: sketch something that starts with K, or write a sentence where every word starts with the same letter.
- Test data. Generate a block of random letters for placeholder IDs, codes or spreadsheet testing, then copy them all at once.
Letter picker wheel
Switch the view to Wheel to spin an alphabet wheel instead of flipping a card. It holds exactly the letters you have chosen, so if you leave out Q and Z or pick vowels only, the wheel shrinks to match. It is great on a classroom screen or a video call, where everyone can watch it land.
The options explained
How many letters draws up to 100 at once. Letter case shows capitals, lowercase or both together. Vowels picks from A, E, I, O and U, and Consonants from the other 21. Include numbers adds 0 to 9 for random letter and number codes. Leave out removes any letters you type, and No repeats makes each letter appear only once per draw.
Everything runs in your browser, so it works offline once the page has loaded and nothing you do is sent anywhere.
