How do elf names work?

Elf names lean on open vowels and soft consonants (l, r, th, n), and they are often three syllables or more. Endings like -riel, -wyn and -thiel sound feminine to most players, while -ion, -dor and -las sound masculine, but many elves pick names that could go either way.

Elves live for centuries, so many tables give them a child name and a chosen adult name. Family names usually translate into something from nature or the sky. If you want a high elf, keep the name long and formal; for a wood elf, shorten it to a nickname your party can actually say.
