pixtidy· Passport photo maker
Passport & visa photos checked against official rules, in your browser
What is pixtidy?
pixtidy is a passport photo maker.
pixtidy is a passport and visa photo maker that checks your photo against the official rules for 18 documents before you pay: US passport, US passport renewal, US baby passport, US visa (DS-160), green card, Schengen visa, UK visa, New Zealand passport, Australia visa, India OCI, India e-Visa, China visa, Vietnam e-Visa, Thailand e-Visa, Pakistan visa, Tanzania e-Visa, Ethiopia e-Visa and Nigeria passport.
Why I built it
Photo rejections are one of the most common and most frustrating reasons a visa or passport application gets delayed. The rules are strict and different for every country: the DS-160 wants a square JPEG under 240 KB with the head at 50 to 69 percent of the image height; the Schengen visa wants a 35x45 mm print with the face filling 70 to 80 percent; India OCI asks for a background that is light but not white; the China visa needs a 354x472 pixel file between 40 and 120 KB with the ears visible. Most people take a photo with their phone, crop it by eye and hope for the best.
How it works
Upload a phone photo. On-device AI (Google MediaPipe, running entirely in your browser) finds your face and facial landmarks, then pixtidy crops and scales the photo to the exact specification of the document you picked. It then runs a checklist against the government's published requirements: head size, eye line, head position, single face, eyes open, mouth closed, facing the camera, background colour and evenness, lighting, sharpness, pixel dimensions and file size. Every rule links to the official source page it comes from, so you can see exactly why a photo passes or fails. If something fails, you get a concrete fix, for example "stand one step further from the wall" or "use a plain white wall in daylight".
Privacy first
Your photo never leaves your device. There is no upload, no account and nothing stored on a server. This matters for a document photo that will sit next to your passport number.
No retouching
Many photo apps smooth skin, swap backgrounds or "enhance" faces. Government guidance for the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand explicitly rejects edited photos, so pixtidy never changes your face. It only crops, straightens and resizes.
Pricing
The compliance check is free and unlimited. When your photo passes, you pay once (no subscription) to download the final digital file and a printable 4x6 inch sheet you can print at any pharmacy or photo kiosk for well under a dollar. Prices are adjusted by region, and if an agency rejects a photo that passed our check, you get a full refund.
Languages
The tool and the requirement pages are available in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French, with local guides such as how to take a white-background photo at home.
Who it is for
Anyone applying for a passport, visa, green card or e-visa who wants to take the photo at home and be confident it will be accepted the first time.

Put Apps on Autopilot Once the Organic Distribution Flywheel Self-Sustains
After cracking the viral format and scaling it across creators, Kishi stopped active marketing spend entirely and let the existing content flywheel sustain downloads. He then moved on to building his second app while Social Wizard continued generating revenue passively. The implication is that durable top-of-funnel content keeps bringing in new users without additional spend.
More and more AI products are using hybrid monetization models where you've got a subscription but then you also have to purchase additional AI credits. That leads to an opportunity around incentivizing referral programs where now if I invite a friend or colleague I get additional AI credits.
PLG loops and AEO are the cheapest acquisition as paid channels get more crowded and expensive
As Meta and Google CPMs rise, product-led growth loops become the highest-leverage acquisition channel. Carter identifies four loop types: personal viral (invite friends), social viral (shareables like Tolen's personality infographic), financial viral (AI credits for referrals), and content-driven (SEO and AEO from crawlable output). AI apps have a structural advantage — their outputs are inherently shareable. He also highlights Reddit as an early AEO tactic: products with a Reddit community show up more often in LLM prompt responses.
There's a play for whatever you're stuck on.

1Hi! I built pixtidy because passport and visa photos get rejected for tiny reasons (head a few mm too small, file 10 KB too big, a shadow on the wall). It checks your phone photo against each government's published spec, entirely in your browser, so the photo never leaves your device and it never retouches your face. The check is free. I'd love feedback on edge cases: glasses, dark backgrounds, baby photos.
