Murmur
Private AI dictation for Mac: hold right ⌘, talk, and polished text appears in any app.
AI & Machine Learning·Productivity
What is Murmur?
Murmur is a dictation app for Mac. Hold the right ⌘ key anywhere on your Mac and speak, and polished text appears in whatever app you are using. It works in any app with a text field, including Mail, Slack, ChatGPT, Xcode, and Terminal. Murmur removes filler words and applies corrections as you speak, so "um meet at four no wait five" becomes "Meet at 5." You can also edit existing text by selecting it, holding ⌥, and saying what to change, such as "make it friendlier."
Murmur is designed for people who write all day across many apps and want dictation that stays private. Speech recognition and the AI polish run on your Mac, and the page states that your voice never leaves your Mac, with no account, no cloud, and no recordings. It also works offline, including in Airplane Mode, after Apple's one-time speech model download. Murmur requires an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 26, and AI polish and voice editing need Apple Intelligence turned on.
What sets Murmur apart is its pricing model. Instead of a subscription, you pay once for Murmur. The launch price is $19, which goes back to $19 after the first 100 copies, and the page compares this with cloud dictation subscriptions that cost about $144 a year. A license works on up to 3 Macs, includes free updates for version 1, and comes with a 30-day refund.
Murmur also offers snippets for phrases like an email address, a "scratch that" command to take back the last dictation, and a paste-again shortcut for text sent to the wrong window. You can try it free with your first 2,000 words, with no sign-up required.

I decided to go with a one-time payment because you know as you said that it's much easier to sell um a onetime fee for something uh than it is to sell a subscription if if your product doesn't have a really good recurring value um there is no point of charging your recurring Revenue
Charge one-time when there's no genuine recurring value
Subscriptions only make sense when the product produces ongoing value for the customer. For a finished-asset product like a boilerplate, a one-time fee converts dramatically better — there's nothing to justify a monthly bill. Honest test: would the customer feel ripped off paying again next month? If yes, ship one-time.
We won't make any compromises on service quality. Those cost optimizations we do not touch. We won't touch it ever.
Never Compromise on Service Quality to Cut Costs — It Destroys the Trust That Drives Growth
Tanuj draws a hard line: infrastructure cost cuts that degrade service quality are off the table permanently. Super Unlimited serves users in loss-making markets (Myanmar, some emerging economies) by choice because the company's growth engine runs on trust. Even when ad monetization doesn't cover server costs in certain countries, the global rating and referral reputation is worth more than the marginal savings. The lesson extends to AI apps today: open-source model swaps that reduce response quality destroy the product value that earned users in the first place.
There's a play for whatever you're stuck on.
