What is MileageLogMaker?

MileageLogMaker is for anyone who deducts or claims business mileage and wants a proper log without a tracking app. Each trip gets its date, miles, start, destination, purpose and type, and the PDF follows IRS Publication 463 with your odometer readings and a dated rate summary.

The 2026 business rate changed on July 1, so trips are priced by date: 72.5 cents a mile before, 76 cents after, with both subtotals shown. Trips are kept in your browser. Canadian (CRA) and UK (HMRC) versions are included.

Free for any number of trips with a light watermark. Pro is 9 USD once for no watermark, Excel and CSV export and your logo.

Retention
What we did is sit down and say you know what factors into retention — it's getting results. We went through all the five-star reviews, all the people that were hands up saying this is really striking a chord, and that was the underlying theme. So you start working backwards from okay getting results — what does that mean? Well in the fitness world it's consistency.

Work backwards from results to find your retention north star

Retention analysis starts by reading every 5-star review and mining the underlying theme. For Ladder that theme was 'getting results,' which unpacked into 'consistency,' which distilled to three workouts per week backed by science. Every product decision — the journal, the widget, the streaks, the check marks — was built to serve that single north star. Ben Gammon's framework applies to any app: find what your happiest users are celebrating, then reverse-engineer the product path that reliably gets new users there.

Idea validation
I came across this app called Praycreen that blocked your phone until you prayed. And with the new insights I had I looked at the design I looked at the features the way they were executing their distribution and I said you know what I can do a better job than them.

Find a proven app and execute its distribution better than anyone

Matt didn't invent a new category — he found an existing app with proven demand and studied its weaknesses. By benchmarking a competitor's design, features, and distribution, he validated the market before writing a single line of code. Copying what already works and improving execution is a faster path to product-market fit than starting from scratch.

There's a play for whatever you're stuck on.
