Dot & Dash
Learn Morse code by keying it on a machine you can press. Write messages, turn Morse into text and back, and key Morse in any app on your Mac.
What is Dot & Dash?
Dot & Dash is a Morse code machine for the Mac. Hold Space or press the knob: a tap is a dit, a hold is a dah, and the tape prints as you key.
Twenty short chapters take you from E and T to the whole alphabet, the figures, punctuation and the common prosigns, two or three characters a chapter. A five-minute daily review brings back what needs it most.
Type a message and the machine sends it, or key it yourself and watch it decode. Paste dots and dashes to get text, or text to get Morse. Type Anywhere keys Morse into any app from the menu bar. Share a message as a tape image, audio or video.
Free for 24 hours, then $29 once for up to 3 Macs. Seven finishes, works offline, no account. macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon and Intel.

my second book The embedded entrepreneur dives into a smaller part of this journey starting a business by understanding the needs the challenges and the desires of a community that you're already part of or want to be part of
Embed in a community before you build product
Audience-first founders start by joining a community they genuinely care about, learning its language, problems, and inside jokes long before pitching anything. Show up consistently, contribute value, and let the product idea emerge from observed pain — not the other way around. Your audience and your first customers should be the same people. (Arvid Kahl, The Embedded Entrepreneur.)
if you do things in public and assume that everybody wants to love you you're going to fail people like you find you and people like exactly in your mindset in your wavelength are going to embrace you
Aim for resonance with a tight niche, not universal approval
Calibrate the public-facing voice to a specific archetype (solo founder, bootstrapper, indie maker). Stop optimizing for broad appeal — track whether the right-fit subset is engaging, and treat indifference from outsiders as a feature, not a bug. The audience that finds you on your wavelength is the one that converts.
There's a play for whatever you're stuck on.
